Rudi Monterroso is a painter and a flamenco dancer. Watch him create abstract expressionist works by painting with his feet while he dances and moves. His works developed as he explored ways of bringing mindful awareness into his art practice, using the artist’s or dancer's body and tools as a way to both record and examine the ephemeral nature of human presence.
In the artist's own words:
"I grew up in Guatemala and came to the U.S. when I was 20 years old. From the moment that I discovered Art, it has been a big passion for me. As a newly arrived young adult in Boston, Art was where I could express all kinds of emotions without words and it provided a place for me to connect with people both from my own culture and from others. As a colorblind artist, painting people is one of the biggest challenges I have confronted but also an opportunity to explore different art forms. After nearly giving up painting several times, I realized that not being able to see color is not a handicap because it emphasizes my ability to see and focus on forms and how light affects objects."

We are thrilled to present two dance performances featuring Ballet Folklorico, one at 12PM and another at 1PM, in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
Ballet Folklorico Sol De Mi Tierra is a non for profit children's dance group that was founded to share dance as a celebration of life, Mexican heritage, and to reach new audiences while providing a safe haven for children who share a love for dance. Sol De Mi Tierra stands for "The Sun of My Land." Most of the performers' parents are from Mexico and want to continue the tradition of their culture. There are at least 20 different states from Mexico represented by Ballet Folklorico and there are several dances and costumes that represent each state.
The children involved in this dance company are from the age of 7 to 17 and attend Aurora, Cherry Creek and Denver Public Schools. One of the students is currently Miss Teen Colorado Latina!
This performance will take place near our community area, close to the southeast entrance of Stanley.
